At CJ Smiths, we are thrilled to showcase one of our remarkable projects, a ground-floor rear extension at Hatfield Road in St Albans, crafted for the Morgans. This 32 square meter addition is not just an extension of their home, but a testament to our dedication to blending functionality with aesthetic brilliance.

Over 16 weeks, our team transformed the Morgan’s vision into a tangible reality. The highlight of this project was undoubtedly the intricate steelwork involved. The installation of a custom-made, oversized steel beam in the kitchen ceiling was crucial. It was engineered to support the weight of the first floor and the existing loft extension, presenting a unique challenge our team navigated with skill and precision.

The interior of the extension is a marvel in itself. The kitchen, a centerpiece of the project, features beautifully fitted units adorned with brass fixtures, emitting a warm, inviting glow. The plinth lighting adds a subtle charm, enhancing the kitchen’s overall ambiance.

Natural light plays a pivotal role in bringing this space to life. The installation of two smaller skylights, alongside a longer, rectangle-shaped one, ensures that daylight bathes the room, creating a vibrant and energy-filled environment. The dual set of black floor-to-ceiling patio doors further accentuates this, allowing light to cascade into both the kitchen and sitting room, connecting the indoors with the natural world outside.

Externally, the extension resonates with the existing structure through matching render and roof tiles. The incorporation of down lights on the exterior not only complements the design but also highlights the size of the extension, creating an enchanting night-time view.
